South San Francisco in the Spotlight

South San Francisco is a city with an identity crisis, a hidden gem that’s often overlooked or misunderstood by tourists. It’s not, as many out-of-towners believe, just the southern part of San Francisco. Instead, South San Francisco is a place that deserves to be appreciated in its own right.

South San Francisco has a significant number of Pan-Asian, Mexican, South American, and Italian residents, and this shows in the city’s amazing food.

Head to the shopping strip known as The Grand to taste amazing Mexican bakeries and burritos. The dim sum at Hung To Seafood Restaurant on South Spruce Avenue is also outstanding. Gather a group of friends so that you can sample a greater variety of dishes.

Admittedly there aren’t a lot of tourist attractions in South San Francisco. Most travelers will find get used to the 20-minute light rail ride to the sites of San Francisco or the beaches of Pacifica. However, business travelers might find that everything they need is conveniently close to their hotel.

South San Francisco is one of the two biggest biotech hubs in the United States, home to Elan Pharmaceuticals, Amgen, Genentech, and many more pioneering firms. If you’re in the biotech industry, South San Francisco’s hotels make an ideal base for a business trip.
